I hear you on the solastalgia, AND I am sorry about your ruined vacation. (also, as someone who gets motion sick on those amusement park Vista rides with the moving chairs and the big iMax screen, that movie experience sounds a bit like a nightmare.)
Your Odyssey experience reminds me of "Sensurround" -- the short-lived technology installed in theaters for the film "Earthquake" in the '70s... which John Waters responded to with "Odorama"... which was just a scratch-and-sniff card that was passed out with "Polyester."
Sorry about your spoiled vacation plans. We're even getting some of the smoke down here in MD--wild. But the photos from my dad in Northern Ohio, right across the lake from Ontario, all look sepia-hued. He's 86, so I'm hoping he's indoors today. I have your anthology at the tippy top of my TBR and will crack it in a couple days--after I finish Wellness (set in Chicago) by Nathan Hill, not as good as his debut, Nix, but entertaining. Today, one of my kids asked when "my" anthology will be published, and I worked hard at not laughing in response. These things take so ridiculously long. But I'm thrilled this first draft is with the publisher for peer review by a couple readers they will find. I'm happy to have a break and get to catch up on Substack and reading and then take a little vacation to visit my dad. Hopefully the smoke will have cleared somewhat. Take care!

Oh wow! I forgot she was coming to town! She was a wonderful interlocutor both in Dublin and then later in NYC.
